Ammonium Nitrate Prills NH₄NO₃

Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) in prilled form is a white, free-flowing granular oxidizer, supplied as laboratory grade. The prilled form resists caking better than fine crystal and stays hygroscopic, so it wants a sealed container and dry storage.

It is widely used as a straight nitrogen fertilizer, as the endothermic salt in instant cold packs, and as an oxidizer in pyrotechnic and composite propellant compositions. In the lab it serves as a nitrate source for wet chemistry. It is a strong oxidizer and should be kept away from fuels, organic matter, and heat.
