Ammonium Chloride NH4Cl

Ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) is a white crystalline salt, supplied here as laboratory grade material. It is readily soluble in water and is one of the more common inorganic ammonium salts kept on hand in a working lab.

It is used as a nitrogen source in fertilizer blends, as the electrolyte in zinc-carbon dry cells, and as a buffering component in general chemical work. It also appears as a flux in metal tinning and soldering operations, and in pharmaceutical formulation as an expectorant ingredient. Store it dry and closed; the material picks up moisture and cakes in humid conditions.
