100g Acetylsalicylic Acid

Acetylsalicylic acid, better known as aspirin, is supplied as a 100 gram quantity of the salicylate ester. It is the acetylated derivative of salicylic acid and is only slightly soluble in water, dissolving more readily in alcohol and in alkaline solution.

In the laboratory it is a standard subject for teaching organic synthesis, recrystallization and melting point determination, and it is used as an analytical reference material and as a starting point in salicylate chemistry. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory compound and is classed as corrosive; this material is not supplied for human use.
