Nitrocellulose cotton, commonly known as gun cotton, is a highly flammable compound formed by nitrating cellulose through exposure to a mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids. It is structurally identical to cellulose but with hydroxyl (–OH) groups partially or fully replaced by nitrate (–ONO₂) groups.
