30g Naphthalene Flakes

Naphthalene is supplied as 30 grams of white crystalline flakes. It is a solid aromatic hydrocarbon with a melting point of 80 degrees Celsius and the familiar mothball odor, and it sublimes slowly at room temperature, dissolving well in organic solvents but poorly in water.

It is used as a moth and insect repellent for stored textiles, as the feedstock for phthalic anhydride in plastics and resin manufacture, in the synthesis of dyes and other intermediates, and as a component of wood preservatives. The flake form is convenient to weigh out and dissolve. Naphthalene is flammable.
