Potassium Chlorate KClO₃

Potassium chlorate (KClO3) supplied as a fine white crystalline powder, laboratory grade. It is a strong oxidizer that decomposes at a lower temperature than potassium perchlorate, which is why compositions built around it ignite readily and burn fast.

It is used as the oxidizer in colored flame and whistle compositions, in matches, igniters and toy caps, as an oxygen source in laboratory work and chemical oxygen generators, and as a bleaching and disinfecting agent. It is more sensitive to friction and impact than perchlorate and is kept separate from sulfur, acids and organic fuels.
