1lb Hawthorn Bond Clay

Hawthorn Bond clay is a plastic fireclay supplied as a dry powder in one-pound quantities. It is a workable, moderately refractory clay valued for its bonding strength and for the smooth, even body it gives once wetted.

Potters and ceramicists use it as a plasticizer and binder in stoneware bodies, casting slips and glaze recipes, where it helps hold a glaze in suspension and improves green strength. It also serves as a binder in kiln wash, refractory patching and mold work, and in general sculpting and modeling where an air-drying, paintable surface is wanted.
