Calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is an inorganic compound, a white crystalline salt highly soluble in water. It is hygroscopic and deliquescent, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air and can dissolve in it. Commonly used for de-icing roads and dust control, it lowers water's freezing point effectively, even at very low temperatures. It also serves as a desiccant, concrete accelerator, and food additive (E509), where it acts as a firming agent in canned vegetables and cheese production. In medicine, it's used intravenously to treat calcium deficiencies and certain poisonings.
