Barium Chlorate Ba(ClO₃)₂

Barium chlorate, Ba(ClO3)2, is a white crystalline oxidizer supplied as laboratory grade in a one-pound container. It is both a strong oxidizer and a toxic barium salt, and chlorates are sensitive to contamination, so it needs clean, segregated storage away from acids, sulfur, and organic material.

Its main application is as an oxidizer and color donor in pyrotechnic compositions, where the barium ion produces green flame. It is the traditional choice for green effects in older formulations, predating the wider use of barium nitrate and perchlorates. It also sees occasional use as a laboratory chlorate and barium source.
