Antimony Trisulfide Sb₂S₃

Antimony trisulfide (Sb2S3) is a gray-black powder, the synthetic equivalent of the mineral stibnite, supplied as laboratory grade in a one-pound container. It is a toxic compound and dust should be controlled during handling.

In pyrotechnics it is used as a fuel and ignition aid in compositions where a low ignition temperature is wanted, including safety match striker formulations. Outside pyrotechnics it functions as a friction modifier and solid lubricant in brake linings and clutch facings, and as a colorant in ruby glass and specialty pigments. It also contributes to flame-retardant systems in plastics and rubber.
