Antimony trioxide is a fine white powder supplied in a one-pound container. It is the most widely used antimony compound in industry and is classified as toxic, so dust control and respiratory protection are appropriate when handling it.

Its largest use is as a flame retardant synergist, working alongside halogenated retardants in plastics, textiles, rubber, and coatings. It also serves as a white pigment and opacifier in paints and enamels, as a fining and decolorizing agent in glass manufacture, and as a catalyst in polyester resin production. It is used in ceramic glazes as an opacifier as well.
