Ferrophosphorus Chunks, P 16%, High Purity

Ferrophosphorus is an iron-phosphorus alloy supplied as broken metallic chunks at a nominal 16% phosphorus, the grade sold as FeP23. The gray lumps are made up largely of the iron phosphide phases Fe2P and Fe3P, with low carbon and no titanium or vanadium.

In the foundry it is added to gray iron to raise phosphorus content and adjust fluidity and graphite structure in thin-section castings. In pyrotechnics, ferrophosphorus is used as a spark-producing metal fuel. It is also used as a feedstock for growing iron phosphide crystals and for dark etched patinas on steel.
