Red Gum Powder

Red gum powder, also called accroides or yacca resin, is a natural resin from Australian grass trees of the genus Xanthorrhoea, milled to a fine reddish-brown to dark powder. It dissolves readily in ethanol, methanol, acetone and isopropanol.

In pyrotechnics it acts as both an organic fuel and a binder, and it is a long-standing component of colored star compositions built on potassium perchlorate. It gives good green strength and crack resistance in pumped and rolled stars, and it burns faster than shellac, which is why it is often chosen over Vinsol or colophony.
