Copper Benzoate

Copper benzoate, copper(II) benzoate, Cu(C₆H₅COO)₂, is a finely divided blue-green crystalline salt that supplies copper together with an organic benzoate anion.

In pyrotechnics it is used as a colorant in blue and turquoise stars, comets, fountains and gerbs, where the copper produces the flame color and the benzoate contributes the organic portion. It is less hygroscopic than several other copper salts, which helps storage stability. Outside pyrotechnics it is used as a copper precursor in organic synthesis and as a copper source in pigment and coordination chemistry work.
