Carboxymethyl Cellulose [CMC] Powder

Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is a cellulose-derived water-soluble polymer supplied as a fine white to off-white powder at 99% purity. It hydrates in water to a viscous solution and functions as both a binder and a thickener.

In pyrotechnics it is the common water-based binder for stars and pressed compositions, used where an alcohol-soluble resin is not wanted, and it holds up well against humidity once dry. Elsewhere it works as a rheology modifier and suspension stabilizer in ceramic glazes, adhesives and coatings. Store it sealed, since the powder is hygroscopic.
